EMI has announced plans for an intriguing new service called Abbey Road Live, which will mix, master and distribute recordings of live gigs to fans soon after they finish. The mixing and mastering will be done on-site, and delivered as CDs, DVDs and/or USB – as well as by digital download or streaming to computers and mobile phones. It appears to be building on the existing Live Here Now service from EMI subsidiary Mute Records, which has produced instant live recordings for the likes of Blur, Franz Ferdinand and the Pixies in recent years.
