No big unveiling yesterday at the Telco 2.0 conference – something to do with the Yellow Submarine broadband router not being ready, we suspect. However, there was still an interesting music debate at the event, with Virgin Media’s Jon James promising that the ISP will come up with something “genuinely ground-breaking”. Our key takeaway, though, came from comments by UK Music boss Feargal Sharkey, who said that one of the big benefits of the UK government’s willingness to take action against file-sharers is that it’s stimulating investment in the digital music space. He cited HMV boss Simon Fox’s comments that the proposed piracy measures made him feel more confident about investing in 7Digital.
