Apple has just opened its fourth store in New York and prior to cutting the ribbon, their retail head Ron Johnson shared enough facts and figures to make any music exec want to give it all up for a life of solitude. Sales from Apple Stores were USD $36.6 billion – roughly a sixth of all Apple’s income – from 170 million customers, ten million of whom took up personal training or advice from Apple’s Genius. Apple Stores make USD $4,300 per square foot, which is five times what Best Buy makes per square foot. Ten thousand people applied for a job at the new Upper West Side Apple Store – for just over 200 open positions.
