Sales volumes dropped 1% year-on-year to 117.4 million units, but the overall value rose 4% to $265.5 million. That’s because full-track mobile downloads are on the rise, with 36.8 million units sold in the quarter, up 6% year-on-year. Ringback tones also saw 7% growth in terms of volumes, in contrast to the 12% fall in master ringtones. For the first nine months of 2009, digital music sales volumes are down 2%, but sales value is up 1%. It remains to be seen if the Japanese government’s plans to crack down on mobile music piracy will provide a boost in 2010.
