Nokia’s Ovi Store application store has hardly set the world alight since its launch earlier this year. However, the company says it’s now doing one million downloads a day globally – an improvement, if still a long way behind iPhone’s App Store. However, Nokia says it will launch version 2.0 of the Ovi Store in Spring, with better speed, user interface and reliability. In a candid interview, the company’s VP of Product, Media George Linardos admits that Nokia was caught on the hop by the launch of Apple’s store, and that the first generation of Ovi Store was effectively a stopgap measure to buy time until the next version launches.
