Techdirt has some charts apparently based on Swedish music industry revenues, claiming they show that the revenue for musicians is “going in one direction: up”. On the wider industry, the graphs also appear to show that in the last decade, recording revenues dropped, collections stayed about the same, and live grew significantly – meaning an overall rise. “And yet, The Pirate Bay is destroying the ability to make music, right?” notes the site. The comments on its post are worth reading too though – a debate has broken out over exactly what these charts show and what it means.
