US iPhone developer Smule, which made the I Am T-Pain, Ocarina and Leaf Trombone apps, has raised $8 million of Series C funding. You might wonder why it needs to raise money at all, given that its T-Pain app has been selling tens of thousands of downloads a day since its launch earlier this year. “Candidly we were not planning on raising capital at this stage of our business plan,” says CEO Jeff Smith, before explaining that the offer from lead investor Shasta Ventures was too good to miss.
