As predicted, Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer unveiled a tablet device last night during his keynote at the CES show in Las Vegas. It’s made by HP, and is designed to be used for regular computing, as well as playing media and reading e-books. “They’re more powerful than a phone and almost as powerful as a PC,” said Ballmer. “Perfect for reading, surfing the web and taking entertainment on the go.” The slate is due to go on sale later this year, but it’s likely to face competition from Apple’s still-unconfirmed iSlate device – which is expected to be unveiled later this month.
