Bassist and blogger Steve Lawson has penned a hard-hitting open letter to the “old-industry millionaires” who’ve been slamming online piracy on behalf of new and unsigned artists, picking on recent comments by Pete Waterman, Bono and DJ Shadow. To Waterman: “To answer his question, `Who is developing new talent?` – the talented people are, you idiot! We don’t need `developing’, we can just get on with it, without you, and services like Spotify remove the gatekeepers and friction from people hearing us. It HELPS us. Stop speaking on our behalf.” He goes on to point out that in the three weeks since he made his four-year old album Behind Every Word available for free download: “I’ve sold more CDs and downloads that in any one month since 6 months after it first came out.” Source: Steve Lawson Blog
