The buzz around whether Twitter’s growth has peaked just got a bit louder: web analytics firm Compete claims that US traffic to Twitter’s website grew by just 1.45% in December to 22.81 million unique users – less than it attracted in June last year. Meanwhile, rival firm Quantcast claims the site’s traffic dropped by 24% between July and December. At this point, we tend to suggest that the shortfall could be accounted for by people using Twitter desktop or mobile apps, which aren’t counted in these figures. However, it’s probably time for Twitter to prove that by releasing some official figures about how many users it has, and how engaged they are. Source: Mashable
