La Roux’s debut album and its singles have been blocked on the free version of Spotify, with users presented with a message saying “This is a Spotify Premium exclusive. It will later be made available in Spotify Free”. The album was previously available to free users of the service, but Spotify has confirmed to Music Ally that “The rights holders have asked that we remove La Roux’s album from the free service as of this week”. Other artists from La Roux’s label, Polydor, still have their albums available, but this wouldn’t be the first time an individual artist’s music had been restricted or removed from streaming services. We’re hearing mixed reports about whether the album is also blocked from Spotify’s mobile apps, which are only available to Premium users. The album has also been restricted on we7 to preview clips only.
