It seems users of different smartphones aren’t so different when it comes to their app preferences. Research from Facebook app discovery service Mplayit shows that the most popular apps on iPhone, Android and BlackBerry tend to be the same ones. For example, the top three music apps on iPhone are iheartradio, Pandora and Ocarina. On Android it’s Pandora, Shazam and Last.fm. And on BlackBerry it’s Pandora, iheartradio and Shazam. Mplayit suggests that this shows iPhone’s 100,000 apps aren’t a huge advantage over the smaller catalogues of its rivals. “It’s not really necessary to match Apple app-for-app to offer a compelling mobile experience,” says founder Michael Powers.
