YouTube has launched a new music feature whose official title is the YouTube Music Discovery Project and Playlist Creation Tool, but which seems set to become known as Disco. It’s not-so dissimilar from some of the unofficial music search engines using YouTube’s API – people type in an artist name and get a playlist of their videos, with the ability to find similar artists and create video ‘Mix Tapes’ from their videos. The service includes videos from Vevo – at least those that are available on YouTube – but doesn’t as yet have prominent ‘Buy’ buttons other than those already overlaid on some of the videos.
