Analyst firm Jefferies & Company has reignited the rumours that Microsoft is set to debut a new smartphone based around its Zune brand – possibly as soon as next month’s Mobile World Congress. “Our recent industry checks indicate Microsoft will be debuting its own phone sometime in the next two months,” writes analyst Katherine Egbert in a research note, describing it as a “Zune-like phone” made in partnership with a manufacturer – much like Google’s own-brand Nexus One handset was made by HTC. Egbert suggests that Microsoft’s new phone will support some kind of music subscription and purchasing scheme. Source: All Things Digital
