US satellite radio firm Sirius XM added 257,000 subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2009, taking its total to 18.8 million. The company says it’s benefitting from high take-up of its free trials in cars – 46.4% of people who got a trial in their new car in Q4 went on to sign up for a paid subscription. Meanwhile, Sirius claims it will report impressive financials next month for 2009. “This is the first year in our history that we have generated positive free cash flow for the entire year,” says CEO Mel Karmazin.
