The US Supreme Court has slapped down Sony Music Entertainment’s appeal against a decision that Launch Media’s internet radio service doesn’t count as ‘interactive’. The case was originally brought by Sony BMG against Launch (which has since been acquired by Yahoo), with Yahoo settling a copyright infringement lawsuit from the label, but the two companies unable to agree on whether Launch should pay standard compulsory web radio licensing rates, or the individual fees required of interactive services. Sony said that Launch’s features for creating stations from genres, artists or songs made it interactive. Launch disagreed, and now the Supreme Court has too. Source: Exclusive Rights
