Microsoft will debut a ‘Zune Phone’ at Mobile World Congress this month, according to a seemingly well-sourced report on Spanish tech site MuyComputer. The suggestion is that it will be a smartphone running the Windows Mobile 7 operating system, with Zune software as its entertainment (“just like how the iPhone has iPod software on it” explains Gizmodo). There have been consistent rumours about Microsoft using Zune to re-energise its Windows Mobile platform, and for most of 2009, the company talked about its plans for Zune as software, rather than a range of hardware devices.
