Poor Rick Astley. Having been rocketed back to fame (sort of) by millions of internet users ‘rickrolling’ one another with his video for Never Gonna Give You Up, yesterday the video was removed from YouTube due to a ‘terms of use violation’. This, despite it having racked up more than 30 million views. We suspected the involvement of Pete Waterman, who’s famously complained about his paltry royalty cheques from YouTube. However, it turns out that the takedown was a mistake on YouTube’s part – “Occasionally, an account flagged by users or identified by our spam team is mistakenly taken down,” explains a spokesperson. Whatever happened to the Rickroll video?
