Billboard claims that only 10 of the 100 artists covered made more than $2,000 from non-interactive streams in 2009. Beyonce made the most with $5,000. With Michael Jackson topping the on-demand streams list with a $10,000 of royalties (these figures are US-only and don’t include publishing income for artists who are also songwriters). By contrast, Jackson (or his estate) made $800,000 from digital album download sales last year, and over $500,000 from tethered subscription services like Rhapsody.
