Remember the day when Jamba/Jamster was the 600lb gorilla of the mobile entertainment industry? Those days are long gone: since being acquired by News Corporation, Jamster has seen its core ringtone business fall off a cliff, while failing to capitalise on the mania for mobile apps. Now, according to the Financial Times, News Corp wants to sell Jamster, with rival mobile content firm Zed thought to be a likely buyer – along with Buongiorno, Flycell and Dada. “App stores are taking all the value,” suggests one investment banker, implying that News Corp will struggle to get back the $381 million it paid for the company between 2006 and 2008.
