Right now, iPhone doesn’t support multi-tasking for anyone’s apps other than Apple’s. That means apps can’t run in the background while a user does something else – only one app can be opened at a time. However, a report on AppleInsider cites sources claiming Apple will change this for the 4.0 release of its iPhone OS, allowing multi-tasking. Why is this important? Currently, the only music app that can run in the background is Apple’s own iPod app. If that changes, apps like Spotify, Pandora, we7 and the rest will become much more useful. Source: AppleInsider
