Money probably won’t be too tight to mention for Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall, with news that 50% of people who bought his Songs of Love album in Tesco supermarkets went on to buy gig tickets for his farewell tour this year. That’s thanks to a validation mechanic provided by Push Entertainment – buyers of the album put the CD in their computer, and can then book priority tickets. “The success of the Songs of Love priority ticketing promotion shows there is still huge potential to offer digital benefits to consumers of physical product,” says Push’s Simon Scott. However, one caveat is that the fact that these are supposedly Simply Red’s last ever gigs will have probably pushed the conversion ratio higher than for a normal album. Source: Press Release
