Creative Commons label Magnatune has revamped its business model, ditching a la carte digital albums in favour of a $15-a-month subscription for unlimited downloads. “Membership today accounts for 74% of our revenue,” blogs CEO John Buckman. “Over the past two years our album download sales have declined while the unlimited downloads memberships have grown.” Specifically, revenue from memberships has grown by 80% in the last year alone. The label has been going since 2003. “I don’t know of any other long-lived Internet music services that are experiencing our kind of revenue growth,” says Buckman. Source: Magnatune Blog
