Chinese media reports suggest that Google may indeed be closing down its business in China as soon as 10 April, with an announcement to be made today (although there’s nothing to report at the time of writing). However, it’s still unclear whether Google will simply shut down its local search engine, or get out of China altogether. There certainly seems little room for compromise with the Chinese government’s policies on censorship – a commentary from the official Xinhua news agency said “One company’s ambition to change China’s Internet rules and legal system will only prove to be ridiculous.” Source: Wall Street Journal Source: Telegraph
