Research from HP claims that analysis of tweets provides a more accurate way to predict box-office hits than other forecasting services used by the movie industry. The research compares Twitter sentiment analysis with The Hollywood Stock Exchange, a site known for its accuracy at predicting hits and flops, and finds that Twitter is 1-2% more accurate. “This work shows how social media expresses a collective wisdom which, when properly tapped, can yield an extremely powerful and accurate indicator of future outcomes,” say the researchers.
