Last year, No Doubt sued games publisher Activision Blizzard over the use of the band’s avatars in its Band Hero game. At issue was the way they could be unlocked and used with any song, not just their own – a similar complaint to the one over Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero 5. The full case has yet to come to court, but No Doubt have won an early skirmish, defeating Activision’s attempt to block the lawsuit on freedom-of-speech grounds.
