Given the current hoo-ha around Spotify’s payouts, that headline might sound strange. However, Musiio is a new startup that aims to connect bands to fans, while charging the former for its role as a middleman. Artists create profiles on the site, and offer songs for streaming, as well as paid downloads. They keep 100% of the revenues from the latter, but pay for the hosting. “Artists and labels will be charged a fee to host their music on Musiio; we’ll charge them every time they send a message to their fans, because there’s a value to that,” explains co-founder Matt McCallum. The site is due to launch soon. Source: TechCrunch Europe
