Metadata firm Rovi Corporation has announced that Rolling Stone is using its database for its revamped website. Rovi’s metadata will be used to provide artist, album and track data for the site’s content, while also providing identification tags to help in cross-promotions with other Rovi-powered digital music stores. Rovi is aiming to take on metadata market leader Gracenote. The company says its entertainment databases are currently being ‘pinged’ 25 million times a day by people searching for content, and it now has metadata for more than 1.8 million albumss and 16 million tracks.
