US performing rights body ASCAP has announced that it collected more than $995 million for its songwriter, composer and publisher members in 2009, paying out more than $863 million of it. The company hailed “dramatic” membership growth, but said it’s focused on making more of digital in the coming months. “Looking to 2010 and beyond, our challenge is to obtain fair rates for the increasingly valuable public performance right over Internet and wireless devices,” says CEO John LoFrumento. Alongside the announcement, ASCAP unveiled a new iPhone app for its members. Source: Press Release
