Due to licensing restrictions, radio show podcasts in the UK are only able to include snippets of the music played in the original shows. However, digital distributor Kudos Records is launching a new service called Playdio that aims to fix it. It’ll take the form of Spotify playlists, with spoken ‘tracks’ from the DJs intermingled with full song streams. Kudos says it’s currently in talks with other streaming services too. DJs Phill Jupitus, Phil Wilding, Peter Curran and Mark Webster are already signed up. Show producers will get a per-stream rate for the spoken word tracks.
