The latest startup in the mobile social location space is SCVNGR, which recently raised $4 million from Google’s VC arm. It’s like Foursquare and Gowalla in that users check-in to places in the real world – bars, restaurants, gig venues and so on. However, SCVNGR’s big thing is challenges: it allows the owners of those venues to create challenges for users to complete when they’ve checked in. For example, a gig venue might challenge them to take a photo of themselves drinking a beer, visit the merchandise stall, and so on. Completing challenges earns users points, which in the future could be turned into rewards of some kind. One to watch. Source: TechCrunch
