Universal Music Group Distribution president and CEO Jim Urie wants the US to follow the lead of other countries around the world and implement a graduated response regime to tackle online piracy. Citing Sweden, South Korea and France, Urie told the NARM conference that “the government and the ISPs have to come to the party and recognize the value of intellectual property”. He also suggested that while ISPs are only “somewhat cooperative”, they would benefit from these measures too. “The top 1% of the users who are doing all the file-sharing and downloading the entire Beatles and Rolling Stones catalog use up 25% of the bandwidth”.
