PRS For Music’s chief economist Will Page has published a report analysing the play-stats and payments from a range of British radio stations, and it will please anyone campaigning for the BBC’s 6 Music to be spared the axe. The analysis reveals that 6 Music plays three times as many unique songs as the average station, and pays four times as many songwriters performance royalties. There are 750 songwriters who get paid by 6 Music but no other stations. “From a songwriter’s perspective, it is important to note that 6Music is currently the difference between nothing and something for many of them,” writes Page. Campaigners are currently battling against the Beeb’s plans to close the station. Link Source: The Register
