New figures released by the Recording Industry Association of Japan reveal that music downloads were down 3% to 461.87 million in fiscal 2009 – the first time they’ve fallen since it started tracking them in 2005. Value-wise, the digital music market remained flat at 90.6 billion Yen. A 4% fall in mobile music downloads was the main offender – they make up 90% of the Japanese digital music market. The RIAJ highlights consumers spending less last year due to economic conditions, while also spending more time playing games. Source: E-Nikkei
