Loopt is one of the social location mobile firms linking people’s location with their friends. Now it’s launched a new app, Loops Star, which offers real-world rewards for checking-in at specific retail chains or locations. The idea is that brands and retailers can set the rewards to encourage more visitors. It’s all built on top of Facebook’s social graph. Brands/places on board at launch include The Gap, Burger King, Starbucks and Stanford University, but also intriguingly Universal Music Group. In UMG’s case, anyone checking-in to a qualifying bar with two Facebook friends will get access to five free MP3s from artists including Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Mos Def. Source: Press Release
