20 million videos are being uploaded to Facebook each month with 2 billion videos being watched. The figures, given to NewTeeVee by Facebook, demonstrate an increase compared to stats from last March which pegged uploads at 12 million per month. Facebook has now made it into Comscore’s VideoMetrix top five video sites, placing it behind YouTube but ahead of Hulu and roughly equal to Vevo and Fox Interactive. Note that Facebook is still not perceived as a place for premium content (we would suggest that the video content is most likely to derive from mobile phones and webcams rather than TV or music production companies) and the number of videos watched per user (5.6 according to Comscore) is low compared to YouTube’s mighty 96.
