It comes by every four years: a time for aspiring musicians everywhere to prove their love of “The Beautiful Game” with their own football terrace anthem. Dizzee Rascal and James Corden have had a go; Russell Brand and Robbie Williams have covered “Three Lions”; and YouTube is positively littered with other attempts including a tune from not-so-Young-One Rik Mayall called “Noble England”. But who expected uber-cool indie act We Are Scientists to follow suit? Their track “Goal! England” debuted on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show last week and the reception has been so good that they, in conjunction with PIAS, have built a microsite containing videos of the track alongside that all-important Facebook “Like” button.
