Visits to social networks have been rising steadily over the past three years but in May 2010 social networks edged ahead of search, with 11.88% of UK internet visits compared to 11.33% for search engines. Facebook is far and away the most-visited UK social site with 55%; YouTube is second at 16.5% and Twitter is at 2%, leaving others such as MySpace and Bebo trailing around the 1% mark. Google is the dominant search engine, accounting for more than nine out of ten searches in the UK.
