Amazon has been awarded a patent for a ‘Social Networking System’, which is described thus: “A networked computer system provides various services for assisting users in locating, and establishing contact relationships with, other users… In addition, the system may automatically notify users of personal information updates made by their respective contacts.” Which sounds like every social network to us, including Facebook. Yet Friendster holds a separate patent for ‘Social Networking’, while Facebook holds a patent for the idea of a social networking newsfeed. Will everyone sue everyone else? Unlikely. Source: Mashable
