Rumours have been sweeping the blogosphere about Google launching a rival social network to Facebook, sparked by a tweet from Digg co-founder Kevin Rose. “Ok, umm, huge rumor: google to launch facebook competitor very soon “Google Me”, very credible source,” he tweeted. Google launching a social network? It already has one: Orkut. It’s not very popular in the Western world, but has taken off in Latin America. However, Wired claims that Google Me may look to roll Orkut in with other services, including Google Buzz, Google Wave, Profiles and Friend Connect, which could give it a starting userbase of 200 million people.
