In the first quarter of 2009, US smartphone owners consumed an average of 90MB of mobile data a month. In Q1 2010, that had risen to 298MB – up 230%. It’s a sign of the rapid growth in usage of apps and streaming video/music services on smartphones. However, Nielsen also points out that the top 6% of smartphone data users are consuming half of all data – and a quarter of smartphone owners aren’t using any data at all.
