Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster has issued a report claiming that 81% of downloads from Apple’s App Store are free – meaning more than four billion of the five billion downloads to date. Meanwhile, he also points out that the average price of the Top 50 paid apps on the store is a mere $1.49. He also makes the point that iPhone, iPod touch and iPad users are downloading more than 16.6 million apps a day, nearly double the 8.9 million daily song downloads from the iTunes Store. Although by his own reasoning, that’s only 3.2 million paid app downloads a day.
