Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg finally confirmed that the social network has more than 500 million active users. The company is celebrating the milestone by launching a new application called Facebook Stories, which aims to let users share their stories on how they’re using the social network. Tech blog O’Reilly Radar has been digging into the location and demographics of those half a billion active users. 32.5% are in North America, 27.5% in Europe and 17.1% in Asia, but there’s strong growth in South America and the Middle East. Another stat: 14% of Facebook users in the US are now 55 or older.
