Last.fm now has more than 8 million users in the US, having tripled its audience there in the last 18 months. The site ditched its on-demand streaming aspects earlier this year to focus on scrobbling user data and discovering new music, signing partnerships with we7, Spotify and Hype Machine in the UK, and Hype Machine, Vevo and MOG in the US. Last.fm is processing more than 1,000 user scrobbles a second, sucking in 40 million pieces of data a day about what people are listening to on partner services.
