D2C service CD Baby has announced that it’s paid more than $150 million out to artists since its launch in the late 1990s. Digital Music News claims that includes both CDs and downloads, and that CD Baby is on track to pay out around $40 million for 2010 alone. CEO Tony Van Veen says the service currently has around 230,000 artists using it, meaning an average payout of $174 per year.
