Q2 this year was the first quarter in which games publisher Activision Blizzard made more revenue from online subscriptions and digital sales than it did from selling physical games in stores. That’s thanks in part to World of Warcraft, which has 11.5 million people paying a monthly subscription, but also due to increasing digital sales of games on platforms like Steam. However, overall Activision’s revenues were down 7% year-on-year to $967 million for the quarter, resulting in net income of $219 million. Activision also said sales of music games are still underperforming.
