Video site Vimeo has unveiled a new version that uses the HTML5 standard rather than Flash. That means it’ll work on iPhones and iPads, which don’t support Flash. However, the company’s mobile site will detect what device people are using to access it, and re-route them to a Flash version if they’re on a smartphone that does support it – like Android. Importantly, the new version works for embedded Vimeo videos on other websites too: so if users visit a blog or site with a Vimeo video on it using their iPhone, they’ll now be able to play it. A number of artists use Vimeo alongside or instead of YouTube, so it’s good news for them.
