Chinese operator China Mobile has 554 million subscribers, although only 10.46 million (1.9%) of them are on 3G connections. But in its latest set of financial results, the operator said that in the first half of this year, its ‘value-added services’ revenues – including music – were up 13.4%. But what does that mean for music? Well, China Mobile’s music download service has more than 3.2 million paying users according to the latest stats, with more than one million songs available in its catalogue. No news on revenues. A sobering thought though: those 3.2 million music buyers represent just 0.6% of China Mobile’s overall subscriber base.
