Last night, Apple announced its new music social network, Ping, which is part of its iTunes 10 software. The update went live overnight – you can download it here – but the promised Facebook Connect feature appears to be missing.It was certainly there in last night’s demos – a prominent button allowing you to sign into Facebook and add your friends as Ping contacts. This morning, there’s no sign of it: you’re only able to invite friends via email or search for their name. A quick search on Twitter reveals plenty of other people can’t see it either.Yet puzzlingly, Facebook Connect is still referred to in the introductory email you get after signing up to Ping, and is also mentioned on your People page – “You are not following anyone. Connect with Facebook, search for people, invite friends or follow recommended people to get started.”The Ping section of the iTunes Store is online, so could be updated at any time remotely to put the button back in. But its omission this morning makes us wonder if there’s a problem
