We’ve seen music startups that aim to reward fans for promoting their favourite artists, but Posse has the most significant industry backing yet. The Australian site has funding from ‘several industry leaders’ and a commercial partnership with EMI. It involves artists and labels offering ‘incentives’ to fans to plug their tours and music on social networks. It already has 5,000 people signed up, with fans making between A$0.50 and A$10 for every ticket they promote. “Fans word-of-mouth is the future of music marketing and Posse is the world’s first platform to develop an effective system to encourage this process,” says EMI’s global SVP of product Simon Miller.
